Screens in cars offer several advantages, transforming the in-car experience. They provide intuitive control over a wide range of functions, including navigation, climate control, audio systems, and vehicle settings, often consolidating multiple physical buttons into a single interface. Integration with smartphones via platforms like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto allows for seamless access to apps, communication, and entertainment. Furthermore, these screens are crucial for displaying information from advanced safety features such as backup cameras, blind-spot monitoring, and navigation, potentially enhancing awareness and safety. For manufacturers, screens can also offer a more streamlined interior design and potentially lower production costs compared to a multitude of traditional controls.

But with all of those positives, I still find myself missing the tactile feel of pressing the switches, twisting the knobs, and feeling the clicks when I am driving. While some screen usage in vehicles can be tasteful, I personally prefer it to be very limited as I think screens tend to look a little tacky/outdated within a year of them coming out as new screen technology is releasing all the time. I also dont like the fact that vehicl resale value is so negatively impacted by cars that are overly digitized, with the way the tech industy is going at the current moment its hard to buy a brand new vehicle that will look old/outdated in only a few years time. I personally drive a 1980 Datsun 280zx as my daily driver and I feel such a timeless difference sitting in that compared to any modern car that overly utilized technology.
